چکیده

Black carbon (BC) is one of the short-lived air pollutants that contributes significantly to aerosol radiative forcing and global climate change. It emitted by incomplete combustion fossil fuels, biofuels, biomass. Urban environments are quite complex thus, use mobile jointly with fixed monitoring provides a better understanding dynamics BC distribution in such areas. The present study addresses measurement concentration using real-time ambient Barranquilla, an industrialized urban area Colombian Caribbean. A microaethalometer (MA200) aethalometer (AE33) were used for measuring concentration. absorption Ångström exponent (AAE) values determined area, identifying emission sources. results sampling show vehicle traffic emissions prevail; however, influence biomass burning was also observed. mean found be 1.04 ± 1.03 μg/m3 varied between 0.5 4.0 μg/m3. From measurements obtained real conditions on road, much higher average value 16.1 16.5 measured. Many parts city showed concentrations than 20 spatial shows jams, consequence road transport infrastructure, factors most affect comparison from two aethalometers indicates measured MA200 9% lower those AE33. AAE vary 1.1 1.6, indicating vehicular as crucial source. In addition, it observed working days 2.5 times weekends case 1.5 monitoring.

Global atmospheric black carbon inferred from AERONET.

AERONET, a network of well calibrated sunphotometers, provides data on aerosol optical depth and absorption optical depth at >250 sites around the world. The spectral range of AERONET allows discrimination between constituents that absorb most strongly in the UV region, such as soil dust and organic carbon, and the more ubiquitously absorbing black carbon (BC). AERONET locations, primarily cont...

Export efficiency of black carbon aerosol in continental outflow: Global implications

[1] We use aircraft observations of Asian outflow from the NASATransport and Chemical Evolution over the Pacific (TRACE-P) mission over the NW Pacific in March–April 2001 to estimate the export efficiency of black carbon (BC) aerosol during lifting to the free troposphere, as limited by scavenging from the wet processes (warm conveyor belts and convection) associated with this lifting. Our esti...

Hydropyrolysis: Implications for Radiocarbon Pretreatment and Characterization of Black Carbon

Charcoal is the result of natural and anthropogenic burning events, when biomass is exposed to elevated temperatures under conditions of restricted oxygen. This process produces a range of materials, collectively known as pyrogenic carbon, the most inert fraction of which is known as black carbon (BC). BC degrades extremely slowly and is resistant to diagenetic alteration involving the addition...
